Thingyan
(Water festival) is the most famous festival in Myanmar and the whole
country celebrate in this festival. It is held in the month of Tagu
every year. Tagu is the first month of the Myanmar calendar. It falls in
March and April on the Gregorian calendar. Thingyan Festival is Myanmar
New Year Festival. That has been the tradition since Tagaung Period and
it became prominent in Bagan Period. There are four days of throwing
water and the last, New Year day, devoted to doing good deeds in all
towns and villages. People carry water guns or buckets to douse anyone
seen on the street. Water is a symbol of coolness, clearness and
cleansing of dirt and grime. The festival of Thingyan that is made most
merry and enjoyable with pouring or throwing water on one another is
taken as one that cleanses one and all of all dirt and grime of the old
year and cools and clears the minds of the people for the New Year.
Thingyan Merry-making at Thingyan festival is intermingled with noble
and pure activities of doing meritorious religious deeds in accord with
the teachings of Buddha Dhamma. The more sedate attend meditation
sessions or keep the Buddhist precepts. Communities prepare sweets to
give out to passer-bys and at night, people are entertained with songs
and dancing by both professional and amateur performers.

12 April , 2009; Day 01 :
Arrival Yangon ( morning arrival)
Arrive at Yangon International airport (the main gateway to
Myanmar). Welcome by our experienced guide by showing your
name board at airport. Kindly visit to our office situated
near airport, just drive 3 minutes. Collect payment and give
service vouchers, map and fully detail program for your trip
to Myanmar. After taking a short rest by making
conversation, start your enjoyable sightseeing at Yangon or
if you wish transfer to your hotel and take a rest.
Sightseeing includes, CHAUK HTAT GYI Pagoda, huge 72 meter
Reclining Buddha Image .After taking your Lunch at famous ,
nice and clean local restaurant visit to BOGYOKE Market for
free shopping and celebrate the Bogyoke Market Water
festival. Then take hotel check in and make a short rest. In
the afternoon visit to GREAT SHWE DAGON PAGODA, (one of the
wonder of the World and itself is a solid brick
stupa(Buddhist reliquary) that is completely covered with
gold. Continue sightseeing to MAHA WIZAYA, next to Shwe
Dagon Pagoda, a specially-designed hole on the ceiling that
only permits the sunlight to inside only a single day every
year, Myanmar New Year Day according to Myanmar Lunar
